The story behind RENDiet

It started with an empty grocery cart.

I know what it's like to stand in a grocery store and not know what you can safely eat.

After going through my own renal journey, I spent nearly an hour walking the aisles, picking up products, reading labels, putting them back, and trying to figure out what was actually right for me.

When I looked at my cart, I had only two items.

A stranger noticed. She saw my nearly empty basket and thought I needed help. She bought food for me and left it at the register.

It was an incredibly kind gesture. But she couldn't have known what my kidneys needed.

The food wasn't appropriate for my renal diet, so I donated it. That's when I realized the problem wasn't finding food. It was knowing what food I could trust.

So I built RENDiet.

A history of patient-led innovation

This isn't my first kidney-health innovation.

In 2012, as a kidney patient, I built a comprehensive kidney-health tracker bringing together the things patients had to manage every day—from diet and labs to medications, fluids, doctors, and more.

Food · Labels · Personalized guidance · Grocery decisions

But tracking the past isn't enough. Patients need help with the decision in front of them.

Patients don't just need to track kidney health. They need to navigate life with it.

She knew I needed food.

She couldn't have known what my kidneys needed.

RENDiet was built to close that gap.
